Workshop on government employability schemes

Overview

The skills and knowledge are the driving forces of economic growth and social development for any country. According to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE):

  • India currently faces a severe shortage of well-trained, skilled workers
  • Formal training of employees in basic business frameworks and concepts is relatively missing
  • It is estimated that only 2.3 % of the workforce in India has undergone formal skill training as compared to 68% in the UK, 75% in Germany, 52% in USA, 80% in Japan and 96% in South Korea
  • Large sections of the educated workforce have little or no job skills, making them largely unemployable

The Government of India & the State Governments have in the recent past undertaken various steps and designed many schemes to create an industry-friendly skills ecosystem. Unfortunately, despite the progressive policy framework this information has not percolated to Industry for their participation.

For instance, the entire Apprenticeship framework has not only been redesigned to enable easy Industry adoption but the Industry is also being monetarily incentivized to hire apprentices through the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).

Similarly, through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) the entire workforce will be assessed and certified on their current skillsets, knowledge and experience gained either through formal or informal learning. Employees will be awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the government in association with NSDC including a monetary benefit of INR 500/- per employee and 3 years accidental insurance absolutely free.

The objective of organizing this mission is to invite esteemed dignitaries from the IT-ITES/BPM industry to partner and participate with NASSCOM – Sector Skill Council in the adoption of the employability schemes led by the National Skill Development Corporation.
